In this role you will carry out mechanical fitting duties both in the York Service Centre and on site at customers premises on a wide range of mechanical equipment. In this role you will be accountable for:
- Carrying out general fitting duties such as dismantling and re-assembly of a range of mechanical equipment.
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and written/verbal instruction.
- Performing an initial inspection of equipment and compile detailed reports of condition.
- Cleaning of components as part of the dismantling process.
- Competently and accurately using measuring equipment such as micrometers/verniers to assess condition of a component against drawings provided
- Carrying out maintenance duties of SC key equipment, such as machine tools.
- Ensuring you always adhere to Health and Safety responsibilities, including following all appropriate procedures and using the appropriate protective equipment
- Checking that risks and hazards in activities undertaken in the role are acknowledged and conducted in accordance with processes, procedure, and measures in place to mitigate risks
- Familiarising yourself with environmental aspects of activities undertaken in the role and the procedures and processes underpinning.
- Maintaining a work area that is clean and tidy in accordance with company initiatives such as LEAN and in accordance with health and safety requirements.
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- A recognised mechanical engineering apprenticeship, City and Guilds qualification or equivalent experience.
- Preferred experience in dismantling and assembly of motors, gearboxes, and pumps.
- Demonstrable experience within a mechanical workshop
- Excellent attention to detail is required
- Confident in your abilities to read and interpret mechanical drawings
- Numerate, methodical approach
- Practical skills are essential to this role
- Great communication skills including flexibility to allow for positive adaptation, when customers’ requirements change.
- Strong team player and positive customer skills.

Location: We are based on the outskirts of York you will be close the historic walled City of York, whilst only a few minutes’ drive off the Outer Ring Road and 10 minutes’ drive to the A64, this road joins the A1M and M1. York is a city with a lot to offer with, a wide variety of shops, theatres, and fab restaurants. As well as cool bars and a pub for almost every day of the year.
