Internship Polymer Applications and Recycling - Full Time - Winterthur, Switzerland

We are looking for an Intern to join our CT_Technology & Innovation team in Switzerland.

 

Are you a Master's student, passionate about sustainability and interested in pioneering solutions for polymer applications and recycling? We have an exciting internship opportunity for you. This internship will focus on the decontamination of pyrolysis oil derived from end-of-life plastic waste, with an emphasis on testing various upgrading solutions and developing robust methodologies for analytical testing of pyrolysis oils. These feeds often contain challenging contaminants, such as halogens from food packaging and flame retardants. 

 

As an intern, you will play a key role in evaluating innovative treatment methods to remove these contaminants and in establishing reliable analytical approaches to characterize pyrolysis oil quality. Join our team if you are eager to work hands-on on polymer recycling challenges while gaining invaluable practical experience!

 

 

Your main tasks and responsibilities:  

 

  • Conduct research to identify effective methods for the removal of contaminants from pyrolysis oil and polymer melt. 
  • Compare and evaluate different purification techniques, including hydroprocessing of pyrolysis oil.
  • Develop and carry out analytical testing of pyrolysis oils and pyrolysis oil pretreatment tests.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of stakeholders, including engineers, scientists, and technical experts.
  • Document and analyze experimental data, making recommendations for process improvement.
  • Contribute to the development of sustainable polymer recycling solutions. 

 

To succeed in this role, you will need: 

 

  • Currently undertaking a Master’s or PhD degree, with a strong preference for backgrounds in Chemical Engineering, Analytical Chemistry, or Chemistry. 
  • Strong interest in sustainability and a passion for addressing complex environmental challenges. 
  • Hands-on experience in the lab, including development of analytical tests. 
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with diverse teams. 
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and adaptable to a dynamic work environment.
