Operations Manager - Full Time - Sutton in AshfieldUnited Kingdom

Sulzer is a leading engineering company with a proud heritage of innovation. Join our global team to grow your expertise and develop innovative solutions that enable a prosperous and more sustainable society.

We are looking for an Operations Manager to join our Services team across Sheffield and Sutton-in-Ashfield.

Due to continued growth and increased demand from key sectors, including our long-standing partnerships in UK Rail, Sulzer is seeking a results-driven Operations Manager to lead operations across two of our most established and successful service centres: Sheffield (S9) and Sutton-in-Ashfield (NG17). This dual-site role presents an exciting opportunity to strengthen our service delivery, enhance performance, and embed consistent operational excellence. With both sites playing a critical role in the repair and overhaul of rotating equipment, traction motors and components for the rail industry, this is your chance to help us raise the standard even further — while living Sulzer’s principles: Seize opportunities, Own it, Team up, and Create value.

Your main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Take ownership of day-to-day operational performance across both sites, with a focus on delivering against output, quality, and cost targets.
  • Ensure strong planning, resource management and consistent performance standards are in place to support continued growth.
  • Lead Lean and continuous improvement initiatives to drive efficiency and elevate service levels across both operations.
  • Champion safety excellence and regulatory compliance through active engagement and strong leadership.
  • Develop and inspire teams to work collaboratively, fostering a high-performance culture aligned with Sulzer’s values.

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Proven experience in operations or production management, ideally across multi-site or complex service environments.
  • Engineering background with a strong appreciation for rotating equipment — experience in the rail sector is a significant advantage.
  • Solid commercial acumen with the ability to manage budgets, drive KPIs, and influence business growth.
  • NEBOSH or equivalent HSE qualification, with a hands-on approach to safety leadership.
  • A collaborative and proactive leadership style with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

What we offer you:

  • A competitive salary
  • Personal annual bonus based on company and individual performance
  • 33 days holiday (inclusive of bank holidays)
  • Defined contribution pension scheme
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Programme and wellbeing support
  • Discounts on everyday purchases, entertainment, and more.
  • Discounted personal car leasing for you and your family
  • Opportunity to apply for a Costco membership
  • Long Service Awards to recognise your commitment
  • Ongoing development through Sulzer Learning Pathways
  • Free on-site parking at both locations with excellent motorway access

No visa or work permit support can be provided for this role

Sulzer’s Sheffield and Sutton-in-Ashfield service centres are trusted by major rail clients to deliver reliable repair and overhaul services for motors, components, and other critical rotating equipment. As part of Sulzer’s global Services Division, you’ll join a high-performing team that’s committed to excellence, innovation, and sustainable growth.
