At our Sutton-in-Ashfield Rail Service Centre, we are at the forefront of delivering world-class mechanical repairs and overhauls for the UK Rail Sector – ensuring the reliability and safety of the trains that keep our country moving. From traction motors to auxiliary systems, our expertise keeps fleets operational, efficient, and on schedule.

 

We are looking for a Mechanical Fitter to join our skilled team, helping us continue to deliver exceptional service to our rail customers.

 

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Dismantle, inspect, repair, reassemble, and test mechanical components of AC/DC traction motors, small auxiliary motors, pumps, and gearboxes
  • Conduct incoming inspections to identify mechanical damage or wear and report according to set procedures
  • Prepare, clean, and inspect all reusable parts for assembly or repair
  • Operate specialised mechanical repair and testing equipment
  • Carry out alignment, balancing, and mechanical tolerance checks
  • Complete all job documentation, including photographs, accurately and on time
  • Assist with lifting, handling, and positioning of heavy components safely

 

About you

  • Recognised mechanical engineering or fitting apprenticeship (or equivalent)
  • Proven experience dismantling, assembling, and maintaining mechanical rotating equipment
  • Experience with pumps, gearboxes, and traction or auxiliary motors
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings
  • Strong attention to detail, organisational skills, and commitment to quality
  • A full UK driving licence is preferred
