ESH Leader – (SEA)


We are looking for an experienced ESH Leader – (SEA) to join us in an exciting journey. The successful incumbent will be, stationed in Subang, Selangor, Malaysia.


This position is responsible for the co-ordination and leading of ESH responsibilities for the SEA Sites (Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Korea) and will report to the Head ESH APAC to implement and communicate EHS policies and procedures along while ensuring compliance with local Legislations, Regulations and corporate standards/guidelines.


This role also has a functional and leadership responsibility to each of the site ops Leaders. The incumbent will be expected to travel throughout SEA regularly to provide expected service levels at facilities or customer sites (can be up to 50% of time), including supporting and assisting shared sites on compliance, legal and IMS requirements matters.


ESH Leadership and Co-ordination

  • Lead with the implementation of safety improvement initiatives (i.e Sulzer Life Saving Rules)
  • Drive for improved accountability and performance through workforce development/training in ESH;
  • Co-ordinate and implement pro-active injury prevention actions along with workplace rehabilitation;
  • Provide leadership in incident investigation, reporting, corrective actions and follow up.
  • Drive employee engagement with practical and value adding ESH tools and processes;
  • Deliver on processes to ensure compliance to all relevant statutory, legislative and Company requirements concerning environment, health and safety.
  • Co-ordinate the implementation of the ESH policy, procedure and processes to maintain ESH Management System Certification.
  • Prepare, co-ordinate and deliver on annual ESH Budgets, Objectives and Training Plans
  • Lead internal EHS auditing requirements and schedules
  • Build strong working relationships amongst the Operational Supervisors / Managers to enhance their focus and culture towards ESH;
  • Demonstrate personal leadership in safety ‘walk to the talk’ (example: Safety Walk Systems, SBP, ESH Awareness, compliance behaviour).
  • Take effective/ proactive actions to address unsafe actions / behaviours on site, up to and including ‘STOP WORK’
  • Directly supervise the identification, evaluation and implementation of hazard control measures with High Risk Activities.
  • Ensure safety work instructions are updated, completed, communicated and incorporate actions arising from incident investigations.
  • Lead and monitor effectiveness of risk management program.
  • Lead and coach ESH Representatives and/or Working Committees to improve ESH performance.
  • Build ESH engagement and awareness through regular consultation with employees.

Planning and Reporting

  • Report ESH performance in accordance with Business requirements (internal and external)
  • Provide stewardship of ESH Management System Certification, Licensing and /or other regulatory needs.
  • Annual ESH Plans are developed, implemented and reviewed at least quarterly with the involvement of the Site Leader;

EHS Compliance

  • Deliver on ESH compliance requirements for Company Certification by relevant 3rd parties
  • Deliver on ESH licensing requirements to relevant regulatory authorize
  • Co-ordinate rehabilitation & return to work activities for injured workers;


  • ESH data and documentation is to be maintained with accuracy and with validity for ISO 45001
  • Provide technical ESH advise and support in the development of operational work instructions/ procedures for the QMS



  • Degree or Diploma in Industrial Safety or similar
  • Technical qualifications within an industrial environment (desirable)
  • Workplace Trainer or Change Mgt qualifications (highly desirable)

Experience, Knowledge & Skills

  • 5 years or more working within an operational (Industrial, manufacturing) work environment
  • 2-3yrs performing in a leadership role, demonstrating leadership, autonomy and authority;
  • Project or Construction Site experiences is highly regarded;
  • Experience with leading cultural or organizational change initiatives;
  • Demonstrated abilities to lead and conduct Root Cause Analysis;
  • Demonstrated performance of implementation of ESH Systems and Processes
  • Working knowledge Workplace Health & Safety Legislation / Regulations (country relevant);
  • English language fluency in reading & writing (mandatory)
