Join our team in Mexico City as Indirect Tax Manager and contribute to strengthening the group tax function ensuring an efficient framework for Sulzer's business activities.

Position Summary
The Indirect Tax Manager is responsible for execution of indirect tax functions for Sulzer entities in the US and Canada.  Primary responsibility is to develop and execute a comprehensive region-wide compliance program to ensure each legal entity is appropriately identifying, filing, and paying indirect taxes.

In this role you will be accountable for:

  • Managing the accounting for all indirect tax accounts and reserves as part of monthly, semi-annual, and annual financial close processes
  • Providing the organization with in-depth information and tax expertise about the interpretation of tax law, new legislation, and change of legislation to uncover opportunities, identify risk, and manage the tax liability
  • Assisting with the indirect tax compliance process to ensure timely filings of sales and use, personal property, and Canadian tax returns
  • Administering the real estate tax process including review of real estate assessment notices and processing property tax bills
  • Coordinating business license and annual report filing
  • Leading indirect tax audits and controversies, including communication with tax advisers and government officials, strategy development, document preparation and settlement negotiation
  • Collaborating with cross functional groups within the company to understand the tax impact of business operations, and ensuring tax needs are identified, considered, and communicated
  • Overseeing integration of dispositions and acquisitions including due diligence and post-integration
  • Identifying and implementing process improvements to the current indirect tax processes
  • Coaching and developing direct reports through identification of stretch assignments and challenging goals
  • Building strong relationships inside and outside of the company's stakeholders

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Tax Law
  • Additional relevant education preferred such as master’s degree, LL.M. or similar
  • At least 5 years' indirect tax experience with a focus on US and Canada, preferably in a similar position within public accounting (e.g. Big 4) or equivalent environment
  • Knowledge of SAP (FI / SD) or similar ERP system (e.g. MS Dynamics).
  • Experience with Vertex O Series SUT/CUT and Vertex Indirect Tax Returns (VITR)
  • Advanced proficiency using Microsoft Office products
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with at least 2 years of supervisory experience preferred
  • Project management experience with strong detail, multitasking, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Team player who can work autonomously
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills, combined with a hands-on attitude
  • Advanced knowledge of tax concepts in a multi-entity/multi-state structure
  • Ability to research tax issues, develop recommendations and implement plans, including the ability to make informed decisions in complex and judgmental areas
