As a Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining control systems for gas turbines and their associated equipment. Reporting to the Controls Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring the effective repair, calibration, and overhaul of control solutions and field service activities. Your day-to-day will involve both hands-on technical work and collaboration with various teams across the business.

 

Your main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Design and build PLC-based control systems
  • Create Functional Design Specification (FDS) documents
  • Perform Safety Integrity Level (SIL) assessments
  • Develop full working applications based on functional design specs
  • Provide technical support to Field Service and Project Teams
  • Lead technical visits to customer sites to support contracted work
  • Conduct site surveys and offer troubleshooting assistance
  • Assist the sales and project teams in preparing technical quotations
  • Prepare detailed control systems documentation
  • Work on a variety of projects both on-site and offshore

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A recognised qualification in Control Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Automation Engineering is preferred; however, candidates with relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Proficiency in Allen Bradley RSLogix PLC programming (Ladder, Function Block, Sequential Flow Diagrams)
  • Knowledge of vibration monitoring, fuel control, and governing systems
  • Familiarity with CitectScada, RSView, Wonderware, and FactoryTalk HMI software
  • Experience designing control systems for gas turbines and integrating them with existing plant equipment
  • Ability to produce layout diagrams using CAD (desirable)
  • Flexible approach to working additional hours and away from home when required
