Senior accountant (RTR) - Full Time - Madrid, Spain

We are looking for a/an Senior accountant (RTR)  to join our GF_Finance & Controlling, Accounting  team in Spain to help us take our Record to Report (RTR) area to the next level. As a Senior accountant, you will collaborate with multiple countries and engage with a diverse array of areas stakeholders, including Accounting, Reporting, Analytics, Country Finance Heads, Global Process Owners (GPOs), and external parties such as auditors and tax authorities.

 

Your main tasks and responsibilities:  

  • Serving as a key member of the RTR team in the CoE, providing expert support on ad hoc topics and complex accounting issues.
  • Supporting complex financial booking activities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Sulzer regulations.
  • Managing complex clearing, including reconciliations and adjustments, to maintain accurate financial records.
  • Supporting period end close activities, including closing the accounts receivable/payable subledger and reconciling with the general ledger; closing the general ledger, opening new financial periods, and closing Asset Accounting (AA).
  • Supporting the Intercompany reconciliation process and fixing variances.
  • Performing technical Year End Closing activities such as balance carry forward, number range creations, and closing AA.
  • Utilizing advanced knowledge of ERP systems to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency.
  • Supporting the Global Process Owner (GPO) with the definition of RTR processes and system implementation.
  • Maintaining and updating the chart of accounts and hierarchies, ensuring it reflects the current business structure and reporting requirements.
  • Collaborating closely with local Finance Teams in countries and Finance Shared Services teams / Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) provider.
  • Coordinating with other departments and the Finance Shared Services teams to ensure all financial transactions are properly accounted for and reflected in the general ledger.
  • Preparing complex journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of the RTR process, leveraging technology and best practices; maintaining policies, procedures, and templates.
  • Ensuring financial internal controls are in place and followed for the processes performed by this role.

 

To succeed in this role, you will need: 

  • University degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3-4 years of experience in Accounting with a strong focus on general ledger and financial reporting.
  • CPA, ACCA, CMA or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and management skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and integrity in financial reporting.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong communication skills for delivering key insights to senior leadership.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Microsoft Dynamics 365, and/or iScala).
  • Strong MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint) skills.
  • Experience with Tagetik, Coprocess, and Qlik Sense is a plus.
  • Proficiency in English. Any other European language is a plus
