About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Health & Safety Specialist to lead and support EHS programs across our operations. This role ensures compliance, promotes a strong safety culture, and drives continuous improvement in environmental and occupational health practices.

 

The successful candidate will own and maintain the existing ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System. These systems are fully implemented at our manufacturing plant; the candidate will familiarize themselves with these systems and ensure ongoing compliance, effectiveness, and improvement.

 

Our matrix structure integrates EHS and QA functions. The successful candidate will work closely with QA during audits and help maintain the Integrated Management System, leveraging shared processes and data to drive operational excellence and ensure compliance.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of EHS for site and field operations.
  • Maintain the ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 portion of the Integrated Management System manual.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local regulations (e.g., WorkSafeBC, OSHA).
  • Serve as case manager and return-to-work coordinator for WorkSafe cases; oversee light-duty programs and support participating associates.
  • Develop and update EHS policies, procedures, and training programs.
  • Lead audits, inspections, and risk assessments; implement corrective actions.
  • Support sustainability initiatives to reduce waste, emissions, and energy use.
  • Investigate incidents, identify root causes, and implement preventive measures.
  • Manage emergency response planning and hazardous waste programs.
  • Co-chair the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
  • Collaborate with QA during integrated audits and compliance activities.

 

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Health & Safety and Environment Health and Safety (EHS) standards and practices
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of EHS experience, preferably in manufacturing or industrial environments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse teams
  • Strong understanding of Workplace Safety and Occupational Health principles
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and mitigate risks
  • Proven experience managing ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 systems
  • Experience developing and delivering Safety Training programs
  • Certifications such as NEBOSH, CRSP, or equivalent are an asset

Compensation for this role will be based on experience and qualifications. The salary range is $82,000 – $95,000 annually.

 

Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
